Hobnob is a casual & friendly neighborhood restaurant in downtown Alameda. With a menu of forward-thinking California comfort food, supplemented by seasonal craft cocktails, beer & wine, we offer something delicious for everyone.
Our chef and founder, Amy Herwehe, has been in the restaurant industry her whole life. At nine years old her father opened steak houses in El Paso, Texas. Throughout the years, she learned every aspect of the industry.
Her love and passion for cooking brought her to San Francisco to attend the California Culinary Academy. Amy's first job was at San Francisco's Asian fusion restaurant Cafe Kati. Throughout the years Amy has learned from top chefs including Val 21, Farallon and Mc2. Since 2001 she has been an Executive Chef at Curve Bar, Sky Hotel/39 Degrees in Aspen, Catch Restaurant and Thirsty Bear.
Each of these experiences has contributed to her unique ability to create and develop international and fusion cuisine with an eye to local and seasonal ingredients.
She has also participated in charity events including: Project Open Hand, Share Our Strength and Maitri.
Amy has designed a menu of thoughtful California comfort food that appeals to the tastebuds of all types, served in a comfortable, relaxed neighborhood environment.
